What is WHS Risk Management all about?

All businesses must have ‘work health and safety risk assessments’ in place in their business to meet government legal obligations.

A ‘risk management plan’ identifies risks in the business.  The plan outlines ways to reduce the likelihood by introducing ‘controls’.  The ‘controls’ are ways to prevent and manage work hazards.  An effective ‘plan’ monitors risks, reviews risks and is updated as the business process changes.

Businesses can properly manage exposure to risks by these steps:

  1. Look for hazards;
  2. Determine who might be harmed and how;
  3. Decide on control measures;
  4. Put controls in place;
  5. Review the controls & modify if site changes are made.
